Self-Care As A Counsellor/Therapist

As a Counsellor/Therapist and a member of the BACP I am under agreement to attend monthly supervision sessions with a qualified & experienced supervisor.

Aside from covering my ethical responsibilities, the sessions allow me to explore how I am being in terms of working with others in a supportive & professional manner.

Other than the above, I place high importance in my own ‘self-care’ and researching ways of continually expanding my own support network.

In the past 3 years I have found the following practices/approaches very beneficial for me not only personally, but also in my work life too.

– Inner Child Hypnotherapy
– EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques)
– Osteopathy
– Hot Stones Massage
– Sound Therapy
– Life Coaching
– Business Coaching
– Standing Meditation (Zhan Zhuang)
– Wing Chun Kung Fu (Solo & Partner Training)

No therapist, Counsellor, Coach or anyone in the ‘helping professions’, in my opinion should ever neglect their own self-care.

So if you are considering receiving support from someone, you may find it helpful to ask what they do to help themselves to be who they say they are being.
